What happens when you mix a Nerf gun, Triggertrap and a crazy man with a 3D printer? Well...a mobile POV shooter of course!
Last week we launched the Triggertrap Phonetrap, a nifty bit of kit that lets you mount a smartphone onto the hotshoe of your camera. At the same time, we've been planning our stand for Photokina (Come say hello! We'll be on Stand C22 in Hall 4.1) . We're not going to tell you what we're doing just yet, but yes, it does involve a Nerf Gun. After a few shoot outs in the office (of the foam dart variety) and various attempts at first person shooter style video, we decided holding the phone next to the Nerf gun didn't quite hack it!
That's when we realised that this could be the perfect opportunity to test how sturdy our new Phonetrap is. Fortunately for us, our office is equipped with a beautiful Form 1+ 3D printer. The is able to create amazing high resolution prints out of a bath of resin, using some infrared laser magic (if you haven't already noticed, we quite like lasers).
After a few minutes of measurements and some high speed CAD work, we had a 3D model ready to go!
An hour later, a beautiful, clear resin Nerf Gun Phonetrap mount was born.
The next step was to test just how well the mount worked. You can see the results on our video!
If you have access to a 3D Printer and want to create your own Nerf Gun Phonetrap Mount, we've uploaded the files to Thingiverse so you can download everything you need here.
