Triggertrap is looking for a Photography Champion to join our R&D team in Bristol. What’s a Photography Champion, I hear you cry? Well, it’s someone who can champion photography and photographers inside the Triggertrap development team. Being a champion photographer helps too.

About Triggertrap

We’re a pretty new company, born from a wildly successful Kickstarter project in July 2011. Our flagship product is Triggertrap Mobile, a combination of hardware and mobile apps that lets you trigger your SLR from your smartphone in loads of different ways. This shot into the top five in the App Store charts around the world, and has now been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times.

Most recently we ran another massively successful Kickstarter campaign for Triggertrap Ada, a new kind of modular camera trigger that is set to revolutionise high speed and camera trap photography. Our products have been featured everywhere from DPReview and Petapixel to Engadget, Forbes and the Observer, with universally positive press reviews. We have a pipeline of new products coming up that are going to take even more sectors of the photography world by storm.

About the job

Your job is to make sure the Triggertrap apps bring joy to photographers everywhere. You’ll become the world’s #1 Triggertrap app expert, as you’ll be testing every software release using our massive library of devices and cameras. You’ll also be taking them into the wild, playing with every mode, meeting other photographers to find what they like and dislike about them, and generally working to achieve app perfection. As the app expert, you’ll also help Team Happiness solve users’ most puzzling problems and will be in charge of procesing incoming bug reports.

Every day will bring a new challenge. One day you’ll be trying to reproduce an esoteric bug on a niche device/camera combination. Another you’ll be working with the coders, using your photography expertise to help create a new triggering mode. On a different day you might be sitting down with a photography group, bribing them with free hardware in exchange for help in usability testing. Or you could be shooting hours of timelapses, working out all the ways the app could be tweaked to help make them more awesome.

You’ll be based in our small (but fast-growing) development team in lovely offices in Bristol City Centre. You’ll report directly to the CTO, and will work alongside the developers. We have a relaxed but hard-working atmosphere and we all love our jobs. You’ll also be working closely with the team in London including our CEO and Head of Photography, both virtually and with regular trips.

About you

  • First and foremost, you’re a passionate, experimental photographer, and more than a bit of a photo geek. Your friends assume your camera was surgically grafted to your hand at birth and you’ll happily spend a whole weekend trying to get that perfect shot. And then all week too. You might not calculate EV and DOF in your head, but you know how. You know your lux from your lumen and of course you always prefer to shoot manual.

  • A patient perfectionist who finds a single pixel misalignment physically painful, you’ve already spotted the typo in this ad.

  • One hand may be grafted to your SLR, but the other has your smartphone.  Full frame may be best, but sometimes Instagram is perfect. You probably have a strong preference for iPhone or Android, but will be comfortable using both. We’ve dozens of devices and you’ll be using them all.

  • You love to talk about photography, so probably belong to several photography groups. You’re a fluent communicator who can explain complicated concepts to non-experts, both face to face and in text.

What we offer

This is a fun and exciting job, where you can indulge your passion for photography while helping to create cutting edge photography software and kit. You’ll be in charge of our device library, with more phones and tablets than a branch of Carphone Warehouse. We’ve quite a bit of camera gear, but you’ll probably need more: we’ll give you a budget for that. Speaking of equipment budgets, we’ll let you choose your own computer kit and software too. We’re 100% Mac, so you’ll probably want one too. Most of us have Macbook Pros with massive external monitors. Sound good? How about a Creative Cloud sub too?

We go to lots of the top photography shows, and so will you. Fancy a trip to Photokina in Cologne this year, with an exhibitor pass?

We offer a competitive salary, generous bonuses and share options as you progress and prove yourself. This is on top of all the usual perks, including cycle to work scheme, childcare vouchers and season ticket loans.

Please note: this is a permanent, full-time position based in Bristol, UK.
